They aren’t looking for the architectural feel of anthracite or grey composite fencing; they want a warm, natural boundary that blends seamlessly into the surrounding garden.

What Does Brown Composite Fencing Look Like?

Brown covers a much wider spectrum than you might expect, ranging from light, warm teak shades to deep, rich chocolate tones. Because of this, we recommend looking beyond the colour name. The tone, surface texture, and variation within the board completely change how natural the finished fence appears. Kit Setup: Our kits are based on having existing concrete posts and a 300 mm gravel board. Example: 6 ft fence boards cover 1.5 m, and the existing gravel board provides the remaining 300 mm, creating a finished 6 ft result.

Fence Slats: Fence boards are 1.83 m in length to ensure all existing concrete post widths are covered. Cutting may be required to fit on occasion.

Brown composite fencing is becoming an increasingly popular choice because of its warm, natural appearance. At Ultra Decking, our goal has always been to create composite products that look as authentic as possible, and that same approach we use across our composite decking boards carries through into our fencing collection.

On our uncapped boards, we use blended colour tones rather than a flat single shade. This creates more variation across the surface and helps produce a richer, more natural wood appearance.

That effect works particularly well on our slatted composite fencing, where the combination of mixed brown tones, wood-grain detailing and narrow slatted profiles gives the finished fence a much more realistic timber-inspired look.”

FAQ About Our Brown Fencing

1 Does Brown Composite Fencing Fade?

You should expect some initial colour shift with any exterior wood-plastic composite material.

UV exposure and rain will slightly lighten the boards during the initial weathering period. This colour shift typically stabilises after 3-6 months. From our experience, deeper brown tones retain a very strong appearance as they weather. Because our mixed-colour boards already contain tonal variation, the gradual weathering looks incredibly natural.

2 What Is Tannin Leaching on Brown Fencing?

If you buy uncapped composite fencing (which contains exposed wood fibres), you may notice tannin release during the first few weeks of rain.

Tannins are naturally occurring compounds found in wood. When rainwater hits the exposed fibres, these compounds wash out, sometimes leaving watermarks. The distinct advantage of brown fencing is that these brownish watermarks blend in and contrast far less than they would against a light grey surface. 3 Does Brown Composite Fencing Show Scratches?

A brown woodgrain surface—especially one with mixed colour variation—visually disguises minor scuffs much better than a flat, uniform surface.

However, it is important to note that hiding a scratch does not mean the material is completely scratch-proof. The massive advantage of fencing over composite decking is that it receives almost zero physical wear. Nobody is walking on it or dragging metal chairs across it.

4 Does Brown Fencing Get Hot?

Dark colours absorb solar energy. A deep brown composite surface will become warm (or hot) in direct summer sunlight. Because the boards are installed vertically and aren’t constantly touched, this is rarely a practical issue, but it is worth noting if you have a tight, south-facing sun trap.

5 Is Brown Composite Fencing Easy to Clean?

Yes. Maintaining composite fencing is incredibly straightforward. A wash with warm soapy water and a soft bristle brush is generally all that is required. Because the boards are vertical, dirt, wet leaves, and organic debris do not pool on the surface like they do on horizontal decking. Brown is also a forgiving colour; everyday garden dust does not show up as immediately as it does on a pale fence.
