We specifically upgraded our wood grain surface treatment in 2022, and the difference is massive—it sees significantly less colour reduction compared to previous editions, locking in that authentic timber look for the long haul.

FAQ About Our 4m Composite Decking
1 Do I need to seal or stain the 4m boards?
No. Unlike timber, composite boards need no sealing, painting or staining; an occasional wash is all the upkeep there is, which is what makes them the low-maintenance choice for busy households.
2 Will the colour fade over time?
Slightly, in the first few months. UV exposure lightens any uncapped composite by up to around 20% before the colour settles, and our 2022 surface upgrade cut that shift noticeably against our earlier boards. What you get after settling is a consistent, weathered tone that then holds.
3 Is this 4m board suitable for DIY installation?
Yes. The boards are light for their length and the grooved edges take our hidden fastening system, so no specialist tools are needed. Because each board covers more ground, a 4m deck goes down with fewer cuts and fewer fixings than the same area in 3.6m boards; our guide to installing composite decking covers the rest.
4 What’s the difference between the two 4m sides?
One side has a detailed wood grain pattern for a natural look. The reverse has narrow grooves for a more contemporary, minimalist finish. Both sides are slip-resistant, so choose whichever suits the design.
5 Are the boards environmentally friendly?

Yes. The boards are made from a blend of recycled plastics and sustainably sourced wood fibres, so a new deck reuses material rather than felling timber.
7 How many 4m boards will I need?
Use the quick calculator on this page: enter your deck’s length and width for a board count, and tick the 5% cutting margin to cover trimming and cuts. Each 4m board covers roughly 0.6 m². If you’re mixing lengths, work out each length separately and add the counts together.
8 Why are they more expensive that 4m grooved decking?
They use more material. Most of the cost of composite decking is the weight and quality of what goes into it; the wood grain board has no grooves cut out of its faces, so it carries slightly more material than the grooved board at the same size, which adds a little to the price and to its durability in long-term use.
