We actually filmed a live temperature test on a 27°C summer day to find out: our grey board reached 48°C, and this black board hit exactly 50°C. That tiny 2-degree difference proves you can have that dramatic dark look without sacrificing barefoot comfort.
Its sanded surface also shows minimal colour change over the years (testing at a remarkably low 1.77 Delta E), making it great for hiding everyday scuffs. Plus, the key secret we’ve learned is that because of this sanded finish, you can actually blend away minor surface scratches with a soft wire brush. Yes, black decking can stain if not maintained. It is important to note that our Home Choice Black is an uncapped board. While capped boards offer a thin PE protective “layer” against spills, uncapped boards are more porous. This means grease, oils, or organic debris left for long periods can penetrate the surface. We recommend immediate cleaning of spills to keep the deep black finish pristine.
4 Does black decking get hot in the sun?
Yes, black decking can get warmer than lighter colours under direct sunlight. We recommend using outdoor rugs or placing furniture in high-sun areas for added underfoot comfort.
