Using a Power Washer to Clean Your Composite Deck

If you still want to proceed in using a power washer, you’ll have to remember a few things to do it safely. You will want to minimize as much damage as possible. Here is how you can clean your deck with a pressure washer without ruining your deck.

  1. Check with your manufacturer. We can’t stress this enough. Before using a power washer, make sure you will not void any warranty. Aside from that, you may also find specific instructions on how to use a power washer on their composite decking boards. 
  2. To start cleaning your deck, remove all the furniture, plants, and decorations on your deck. You can also give your deck a fast sweep to remove any loose dirt and debris for faster cleaning. 
  3. Next, set the power washer into the correct settings. You will need to determine what tip and how much pressure to use. In general, you will need to use a wide tip. The maximum recommended pressure setting ranges from 1500-3100 psi depending on the brand. You’ll want to use one with a soap dispenser.
