Spring Has Arrived in Your Outdoor Home Exterior
Like many homeowners, gardening becomes non existent during the colder months throughout winter. Upgrading your garden can seem and feel more like a summer job however you may be surprised – you can fit composite decking during winter.
We understand not everyone will be rushing out of the door and into the garden, to lay new compost decking, but here at Ultra Decking we are here to reassure you that it can be done! We have listed some tips and tricks you may wish to use which may give you the push to get outdoors, embrace the cold and start your new outdoor project!
Is it too wet to install composite decking
Most homeowners have one misconception when it comes to re-designing their garden in winter, many think it’s too wet and the weather will be too bad. This isn’t always the case though! Yes, summer is the better season to choose when revamping your outdoor living space but many landscapers will agree that the ground can be easier to work with when it’s not as hard during the summer months, it’s easier to dig the holes for the posts.
Make sure to pick a dry day when installing your composite decking. We do not recommend installing composite decking during snowy or icy weather as accidents may occur. As long as the weather isn’t a complete downpour your landscaper will have a way to get your outdoor composite decking installed.

Manufactured to withstand the harsh elements of winter
Composite decking is renowned for its longevity and durability which makes this an outstanding product to fit during winter. Unlike timber decking, this is resilient to cracking and splintering during the colder weather and when in contact with moisture this will not split and warp. This is one of the many reasons homeowners are now switching to composite decking, as this product has been manufactured to last up to 25 years! Be certain to do your research when choosing the right decking for your garden as not all products have the same top quality we provide.
Make sure to choose the right composite decking installer
During the summer months, all homeowners know and understand how hard it is to get booked in with a landscaper/decking installer due to this being the busy season. One benefit of installing your composite decking during the winter months is you will be able to get ahead of the rush and have your garden re-done in time for Spring! Landscapers and decking installers do work over the winter months although it is their quieter period.
Maintenance for your Composite Decking
If you are considering having your composite decking installed over the winter months, it is imperative you maintain your decking otherwise your beautiful decking space won’t look as grand spanking new!
During winter all outdoor materials will become slippery, including composite decking. This is due to the ice, water and cold weather coming together will cause your decking to become a slip hazard. We suggest either using non-abrasive cleaning methods or leaving the ice to evaporate. This will prevent any damage occurring to your decking boards when trying to remove the snow or ice.
Over time, leaves and dirt can fall and collect on your composite decking area, we advise removing the debris and cleaning your decking to reduce the growth of mould and algae.
Cleaning your decking area regularly by removing dirt and debris will help reduce the slip hazard in this area. You can do this by brushing any fallen leaves, pollen, dirt and debris as soon as possible. We recommend this is done at least every one to two months, or more regularly if you can see a build-up to maintain your deck’s appearance and to ensure the area is safe.
