Methods for Removing Bee Nests Under Decking

If you have bees under your decking, here are some of the ways you can keep the bees away from your deck area.

Sprinkle Cinnamon to Get Rid of Bees

One way you can get rid of bee nests under your decking is to use cinnamon. Bees don’t like the smell of cinnamon. Sprinkle cinnamon powder under and around your deck. The cinnamon will eventually make the bees relocate their nest from under the decking. Although it might take a while, they will eventually leave. However, it would be best to be cautious not to get stung when sprinkling the cinnamon close to the bee’s nest, wear protective gear to prevent the bees from stinging you.

Apply Mothballs Under Your Deck

Like cinnamon, bees also hate the smell of mothballs. It makes them uncomfortable, which will make them eventually relocate. Get some mothballs and place them in and around your garden and under your decking close to the bees hive.

Reduce the Amount of Flowers

Bees are attracted to colourful flowers and flowering plants. They help in pollinating the plants. To keep the bees away from your deck area, reduce the number of bright flowers as well as colourful plants.

Growing Bee-Repelling Plants

There are some types of plants like citronella that repel bees naturally. Having these plants in your garden and close to your decking can keep the bees away. Please note some say mint plants will repel plant but this isn’t true and key to point out if your exploring this option.

Apply Bee Repellent Under Your Decking

Suppose you can’t wait for the citronella plants to grow. You can spray under your decking with a spray that contains citronella. Citronella candles are also available in stores. You can purchase them and burn the candles to get rid of bees under your decking.

Remove Sweet Foods Around Your Deck

Bees are attracted to sweet things. If you get rid of sweet foods, fruits and liquid away from your deck area, it will keep the bees away. There will be nothing to attract the bees into your garden.  After you finish eating, remove any food scraps that falls on to your deck. If you have fruit trees in your deck area this can attract bees. Pick any fallen fruits from the ground and dispose of them.

Kill the Bees with Chemicals

Another way you can get rid of a bee nest is by spraying it with chemicals. We personally wouldn’t recommend this option and highly advise you to use the above as honey bees are key to our environment, so sincerely don’t use this method and help support a healthy environment and economy.

Call Pest Control

If you can’t get rid of the bees yourself, you can call a local pest control expert or your local council authority since most have a department to remove pests and rodents from business or domestic properties. They are experts who are trained to get rid of pests, including bees.

Conclusion

You can get rid of bee’s nests under decking by yourself or through pest control services. However, it would be best that you don’t use chemicals on bees and use the methods above of cinnamon, mothballs or citronella candles, they may take a little long but this way you will help support an improvement environment in which bees support.
