An ultra decking can be a perfect addition to your outdoor space. It can make your outdoor area look beautiful, but it requires maintenance to make it look its best. This write-up will teach you how to clean decking naturally.

How to clean your deck

Why Your Decking Needs Cleaning

As mentioned earlier, cleaning your decking is important if you want to maintain it.  Food, grease, hard water, and bird poop can make your decking less beautiful. If you leave dead leaves on your deck, it can prevent air circulation on the decking surface. The leaves will trap moisture, making the decking a breeding ground for mould to grow.

Mould can stain your decking; apart from that, it can even make it slippery. Keeping your decking tidy will prevent mould from growing on it. When there are stains on the decking, you have to do it immediately. If you leave them for too long on the decking, it can be difficult for you to clean them.

How to Clean Decking Naturally

There are different ways you can clean your decking. When choosing a cleaner for your decking, ensure you use a type of cleaner that will fit the decking material. Wood and composite decking are two common types of decking homeowners install in homes. For instance, you can not use chlorine bleach to clean composite decking since it will fade the decking colour. So, if you want to clean your decking, clean it naturally to prevent it from being damaged. Here is how you can clean it naturally.

Prepare the area

First, before you start cleaning your deck, clear and prepare the area; start by removing furniture from the decking. Remove potted plants and cover any shrub or flower closer to the deck with a plastic tarp. After that, get a broom and use it to sweep away dust and debris off the decking.

Use a Garden Hose or Pressure Washer

Secondly, get a pressure washer and wash dirt or dust from the decking. Use it to remove dirt in the gaps between the decking. If you don’t have a pressure washer, you can use a garden hose to rinse your decking.

However, if you want to use a power washer to wash your decking, you should use it with care. It is advisable not to use pressure or force beyond 1300 PSI. You should also ensure not to get the power washer too close to the decking. Use the pressure washer at least 6 to 9 inches away from your decking surface.

Scrub and Rinse

To clean your decking naturally, you can use a mild cleaner. You can use an ammonia-free liquid dishwasher to clean your decking. Such a dishwasher is so mild that it will not damage your decking. Apart from that, you can also clean your decking naturally by using baking soda and vinegar. These are natural cleaning agents you can use to remove stains on your decking.

If you use a liquid dishwasher, dilute one part of the liquid soap in a bucket with two parts of water. Pour the mixture over your decking and use a soft bristle brush to scrub the decking. The bristle brush will remove any dirt and stains on the decking surface. After you have finished scrubbing to remove stains on your deck, you can use a garden hose to rinse the decking to remove all traces of soap.

Remove Mould

The natural way to remove mould naturally from your decking is by using vinegar and baking soda. Vinegar is also effective at removing mould stains from the decking surface. First, rinse the decking with a pressure washer to remove as much mould as possible. Then, pour vinegar on the affected area, allow it to sit and then sprinkle baking soda on the decking. Use a bristle brush to scrub the affected part to remove the moulds. After scrubbing, rinse the decking with water.
